A tale as old as time, (or at least one thousand years) Tristan and Yseult has long been considered the ultimate tale of passionate, romantic love in forbidden circumstances. As such it has been adapted, re-written and re-iterated more than any other story over the years, attracting the best poets, artists, writers and all types of creatives with its universal theme of all-consuming love and bitter-sweet tragedy - with a little magic thrown in for good measure.
Hailing from Cornwall, England, Kneehigh theatre is an internationally acclaimed company and it's their Trisan & Yseult that has really put them on the map. The classic love-triangle is updated with ground-breaking creativity, wit and power. Told through the eyes of vaudevillian style troupe 'The Club of the Unloved' with anachronistic songs blending through this wonderfully theatrical production, a true marvel.
King Mark of Cornwall has plenty to be worried about, his enemy Morholt of Ireland is threatening invasion and a charistmatic stranger, Tristan has turned up at court. Together they take on the fight and on winning, form a strong bond. But when Mark asks Tristan to go to Ireland and get the beautiful Yseult to be his bride, Tristan quickly falls in love with the enigmatic princess. On their return to Cornwall their affair, aided by a nefarious love potion, carries on, causing chaos in the lives and the hearts of the three, with effects that will change all of them forever...
