Fanny brice Is Back
Broadway star Shoshana Bean (Hairspray, Wicked) leads the cast of NSMT's new production of Funny Girl, a slapstick-filled and warm Broadway classic. She plays Fanny Brice, a bubbly comic singer who rose through the vaudeville ranks to national fame during the 1930 and 40s. It's the role which made a star of Barbra Streisand a star, and won her an Oscar in 1968. Packed to the hilt with recognisable numbers, including 'Don't rain On My Parade' and 'People', Funny Girl is an irrepressible, grin-inducing ode to the power of self-belief.
What is Funny Girl About?
The story traces the life of Fanny Brice, a legendary vaudeville entertainer who rose to fame in 1920s and 30s America. Though described by some (somewhat unkindly) as un ugly duckling, her exuberance and boundless talent turned her into a huge star, finding fame on the stage and screen, and on the radio. But her troubled private life also hit the spotlight. Her stormy relationship with the sophisticated con artist Nicky Arnstein had its many ups and downs, but through it all Fanny prevailed.
