Love and betrayal collide in Bellini's tragic opera, I Puritani. Two soldiers vie for the heart of their beloved in a military camp in Plymouth, England, their battle for her love set against the historical context of the English Civil War. The fought maiden, Elvira, only has eyes for one of them - however her love and loyalty soon proves to be her downfall.
This brand new production by the Boston Lyric Opera features two of the Lyric's stars, Paul Whelan and Troy Cook, in title roles while Sarah Coburn plays the lead role of Elvira. David Angus conducts.
