All Aboard!
Once an exciting and glittering part of American entertainment, the river show boats of the Mississippi are now a fleeting memory. But now, Show Boat is coming back to Boston, courtesy of the Fiddlehead Theatre Company! A true classic of American musical comedy, this is an epic tale of enduring love and racial tolerance that will have you dancing all the way home.
Featuring popular tunes from the Oscar Hammerstein III song book, such as 'Ol' Man River' and 'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man', this all-American trip down memory lane will be sailing into the New London Theatre this April.
The show caused a stir when it debuted in the late 1920's, never before had audiences witnessed the marrying of serious subject matter with musical theatre spectacle. Show Boat was truly revolutionary compared to the light hearted musical romps and comedies that preceded it.
THE STORY OF SHOW BOAT!
The story chronicles the lives of the inhabitants of the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi show boat, over 40 years and three generations. Magnolia, the young and naive daughter of the boat's Captain, falls in love with a feckless gambler and faces love's trials and triumphs as others aboard the Show Boat face struggles of their own.
