Peace Train...Late Again
It has been 38 years since Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, has graced these shores with a tour. Not that we're counting or anything! Over 6 dates, he will bring his incredible talent and magical output to audiences, following the release of his first album since 2009, Tell 'Em I'm Gone.
He's Back!
Emerging in the late 1960s, Yusuf was an integral and influential artist, gaining prominence with his spiritual, melodic songs that drew on a diverse range of styles, but it is the acoustic guitar that defined this period, with folk based madrigal influenced Lady D'Arbanville bringing him to notice in the US. Albums Tea for The Tillerman and Teaser and The Firecat followed, cementing his place as one of the most popular artists of the time, defining a generation. From First Cut is The Deepest, to Wild World, every body has their favorite Cat Stevens song, and his withdrawal from music after his 1977 conversion to Islam has done little to dampen his popularity, both here and within the rest of the world, with his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction happening just this year.
Since his conversion, Yusuf struggled with making music and following his faith, he instead devoted his time to education and philanthropy, donating and raising funds for causes worldwide. He credits his son Mohammed with re-igniting his passion, as following in his father's footsteps, he became a musician and brought a guitar into the house, leading Yusuf to reconnect with his roots and make music again, without compromising his faith.
