A new partnership with William Forsythe
The North American company premiere of William Forsythe's avant-garde ballet opens at Boston Ballet for a limited time from this February. Hailed by the press and audiences alike, Artifact combines physically demanding choreography with artistic projections and sets as well as spoken words. This new work marks the beginning of a five-year collaboration between the renowned choreographer and the Ballet. With experimental ensemble sections of 30 dancers, followed by smaller groups, and pas de deux, this revised show also features a brand-new all-men's dance at the end.
Boston Ballet is primarily known for its repertoire in classical ballet such as Sleeping beauty, A Midsummer's night Dream, and The Nutcracker; this new partnership with Forsythe marks a fresh new journey into contemporary works. Forsythe was a relative latecomer to ballet, learning to dance at Jacksonville University. He has since worked with European ballets including those at Frankfurt and Stuttgart, becoming its resident choreographer in 1978.
