Experience The Enchantment of Petipa's Sleeping Beauty
One of the most influential figures of classical ballet, Matius Petipa's legendary choreography became the model for the dance art form throughout the 20th century. A collaboration between himself and the great romantic composer Tchaikovsky, the Sleeping Beauty ballet is a pinnacle of Petipa's sublime vision, rich in passion, sophistication and intensity. Experience its spectacle as the Boston Ballet brings the classic fairy tale to life this this Spring.
Petipa's iconic Rose Adage, Garland Walts and Vision Pas de Deux, amongst other famous scenes, tell the sweeping tale of Aurora, a beautiful princess cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse when she is but an infant. On her sixteenth birthday, Aurora is to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die, yet the Lilac Fairy softens the blow so that the princess falls fast asleep instead, awaiting the awakening kiss of her true love Prince Desire.
