A World Premiere Comedy From Kirsten Greenidge
As part of their groundbreaking 2019/20 season, the Huntington Theater Company presents a thrilling world premiere in the form of multi-award winning playwright Kirsten Greenidge's Our Daughters, Like Pillars. Renowned for works that unflinchingly explore social issues and the intersectional feminism of gender, race and class in contemporary America and beyond, Greenidge has tackled college racism, progressive education and even the relationship between the slave Sally Hemmings and Thomas Jefferson in her far-reaching stories.
Deeply moving and rioutously funny, Our Daughters, Like Pillars follows a present day black American family over the course of one whirlwind weekend. Surprising everyone, Lavinia invites her mother and sisters to her summer home in New Hampshire, yet the blissful vacation takes a turn for the dramatic when her stepmother Missy shows up too. Having inherited everything from their father, Missy isn't exactly the guest of honor and stirs tensions to boiling point as they struggle with their already fraught familial bonds.
