LYLE LOVETT

Saw/Heard Lyle and his Large Band perform at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and enjoyed it more than any other concert I'd attended in a long time. It's impossible to pin down just what musical genre to describe his talented original performance style other than totally entertaining. So glad to see he's coming back to Lexington and the Opera House should be a fantastic venue for a more intimate show. Can't wait!!!

LYLE AND HIS BAND DELIVERS AGAIN

Amazing show once again! I've seen lyle a half dozen times both with his large band and his acoustic shows with john hiatt and have never been disappointed. Nobody can cover so many different genres of music, and cover them so well, as lyle and his band does. His band are all top musicians and with lyle leading the way, the music they deliver is top shelf! Thanks to lyle and the band for another great evening of music.

LOVETT/KEEN OCTOBER 25 '18 KNIGHT'S THEATER

I'm surprised not to see even a word mentioned about the above concert anywhere in the Charlotte media. It was a wonderful night in front of what appeared to be a full house. None other than Kyle Petty showed up to play an original song entitled "Whatever Happened to the TV Cowboys" (or something like that). He has a smooth, rich voice, James Taylor with a little more twang. REK brought the house down with "Merry Christmas from the Family," and he gave credit to local radio jocks John Boy and Billy for the fame of that song. He later played my personal favorite, "I'm Coming Home," with Lyle on guitar and vocal harmonies. I'm impressed with REK for just stepping onto the stage with LL, who is one of the most accomplished musicians in the world. LL had a number of crowd pleasers but the best was probably "If I Had A Boat." And they gave us a 2.5 hour show! Talk about bang for the buck! If you get a chance and are a fan of this genre, don't miss them when they come your way.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE!

We saw Lyle Lovett and his Large Band last night at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts in Cerritos, CA last night. What a versatile, excellent two and a half hour show it was! Fourteen different musicians, diverse songs, heart-felt and funny revelations; Lyle delivers big time! If you get the opportunity to see the band, don't hesitate. Even though we're not followers, his excellence as a performer and all-inclusive support of his highly talented fellow musicians make him a bluegrass legend!

Again Lyle Lovett and his Large Band delivered a night of musical poetry. The 14 member ensemble meshed with Lovett's Texan original style to delight an ever grateful audience. Clearly this folk singer is a National Treasure.

PAINFUL TO LISTEN TO

I wish I could say something good about the Lyle Lovett concert at Red Rocks, but there isn’t anything except for the beautiful venue. Poor vocals, long bouts of squeaky guitar sounds sums up this washed out musician. No one was dancing or clapping. People were leaving (including me) shortly after he started. Ricky Scaggs and his band outshined Lovett and ai only wished they had kept playing.

LYLE LOVETT & LARGE BAND AT BROWN CO., INDIANA JUST SO-SO

Mostly a disappointment. Crackling mics and I don't know if they did a sound check at all. The sound improved as the show went on, but Lyle's voice was still too thin. The trombone solos were mediocre, the alto sax soloed in bebop style which often strayed from the simple tonality that is Lovett's strength. Trumpet and Tenor Sax were decent. The other instruments were solidly basic. A string bass would have added to the sound, and the drums were more rock than funky Texas country. At least the backing vocalists were very good and posessed proper showmanship. There was WAY too much indulgent banter. I don't spend money to see how much Lyle admires his musicians. Put that stuff online, and stick to playing music. And give us a few of our faves. I thought an old pro like Lovett would deliver more. Glad I bought the cheapest tickets.

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT FOR LOYAL LONGTIME FANS

Still disappointed today after last night's concert at the Atlanta Symphony Hall.I never write reviews but feel compelled to speak to whomever it may concern . We went to the concert with great expectations having purchased sixth row center tickets. The best seats we have ever purchased. We were shocked, bewildered and disappointed that as soon as the band began playing and Lyle and his wonderful singers started singing we could not make out one word that he or his singers were singing. There was something majorly wrong with either the microphones or the speakers. A man sitting directly in front of me called out "Lyle we can't hear you!' Lyle answered back to him, and this you could make out "We are just getting started so let me know later on if you still can't hear me." It continued to be horrible. Never have I been to a concert where the sound was so bad that even people in the front rows could not hear the vocals of ANYONE. Several more people complained but nothing changed.Sad

GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS

Everyone has kids. Most going to your concerts have kids. Those that have been going to Lyle concerts for the last 40 yrs all have kids. Not a new thing. We've all been there-done that & have learned that no one really wants to hear a life story about others children. So you had kids late in life. So what! A little bit of that goes a long way. Over an hour of talking about your kids is crazy. We paid to hear old, fun, energetic songs from the 80s- 90s. We did not pay to hear 20 minute sax solos from some obscure band teacher or piano recitals from some guy with his back to the audience. Also, what's with all the talk/ hype about the background of each artist? Ok fine, they have a history. Didnt want to hear a 7min speech about each of their stories. (7 mins x 14 band members = boring!) We, as did many, left early because we had not heard 1, recognizable song. If these time killers are simply a ruse to mask Lyle's weak voice then at least let the Large Band accompany him.

CHRIS ISAAK WAS GREAT, LOVETT NOT SO MUCH

I saw this show in Wolf Trap in VA. The show started with Chris Isaak and it was great. I was then very excited for the second half to begin. I envisioned "Acceptable Level of Ecstasy" and "Cowboy Man" maybe tearing up when "The Waltzing Fool" was played. Then Lyle Lovett hit the stage, if you are a musician and think that the musicians in bands don't get enough credit or stage time. THIS IS THE SHOW FOR YOU. The majority of stage time was devoted to waxing poetic about the band and giving each of them their "drum solo" (first thing) then a second chunk of time was devoted to a lengthy introduction of each individual band member. The balance of the short time remaining was spent on Lyle singing, poorly, songs I had never heard and wished I never had. Within less than a half-hour, multiple people from the orchestra seats started to leave. I would have as well but after a 2 1/2 hr ride from PA, I held out hope to the very end that the trip was somehow going to be worth it. I was wrong.
