A Boston premiere of the musical triumph
The five Tony Award-winning musical makes its Boston premiere following a well-received revival production in 2015 in Toronto. Originally staged in 1997 following the release of the multi-Oscar winning movie, this Best Musical winner is set upon the decks of the ill-fated superliner, with the story focused on its famous passengers, and its crew who all have their different reasons for traveling on the ship. Up until it seems that fateful collision with the iceberg....
Using real-life testimony from survivors across all three classes and the crew, . the musical paints a poignant picture that examines their thoughts, feelings and final hours across the enforced ship class system, and providing color to the troubled post-Victorian, pre-World War society. With a book by screenwriter Peter Stone (Charade, The Taking of Pelham 123) and Tony-winning music and lyrics by composer Maury Yeston, we are placed right in the middle of the bucolic days and chaotic events preceding, during and following the tragedy.
