SONG AND DANCE

Wow, the singers were fantastic! Looking for their CDS??? Dancing was super as well. I do think the movie is more dramatic than the play but in general it stayed true to the film. I did not eat downtown, but there are many wonderful restaurants close by on Main St. Not sure if this is the best show for children; it probably depends on the maturity of the children.

GREAT DANCING

Compared to the movie, the dancing and music were excellent, but the acting lacked passion from the movie. Lines seemed rushed and not genuine. Also the MLK scene wasn't in the movie and made it seem awkward and not necessary. Loved Lisa's hula dance and the final dance!

IT WAS OK

I really enjoyed the sets and the dancing . The singing was good, but the microphones needed to be turned down a little volume wise. At times when the singers hit their high notes I felt I needed to cover my ears. I wasn’t crazy about the extra story lines and I feel they dragged it out a bit. And some of the acting lacked emotion, like the dad. Overall I enjoyed the play, I don’t think I would see it again though.

DISAPPOINTED

We saw the show in Boston at the Schubert Theatre. The first half was very stilted ma And just did not flow. The lead singer had a nice voice but it sounded like she was shouting. this could have been the acoustics or the sound person not making the appropriate adjustments. Second act moved along more quickly and the dancing was great, the line nobody puts baby in the corner just seemed out of place

DISAPPOINTING

Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite movies of all time but taking this story to the stage fell short of achieving the emotional journey I was expecting. The set designs were well done and the dancing was commendable. However, the acting was not what I have come to expect from these Best of Broadway productions. Kaleigh Courts, "Baby," did a good job of delivering her lines but would have been more successful if other actors had put as much emotion into their characters as she did. Aaron Patrick Craven was a wonderful dancer but not as sincere in his line delivery as he could have been. Nickolaus Colon as Kostecki was very good. His voice was the show stopper! "Penny" was played well by Anais Blake but it was her dancing that really set her apart. The sound system was horrible, either too loud or not audibly clear. One of my favorite scenes was the lift lesson in the water - great adaptation. All in all I was disappointed. Not for under 13 and not worth the money.

NOT FOR THE STAGE

I went with low expectations based on feelings I had from video previews. I didn't set my expectations low enough, because this production was sincerely one of the worst plays/musicals I've seen and I have viewed plenty. The show is overlong and is void of any real purpose, sincerity and emotion. The lines were peformed in a very passive and unfeeling manner, making every scene feel thin and empty. The transitions between beats and scenes were extraordinarily bad. The changes were very awkward and made things feel disjointed. The only redeeming factors in the show were the music, excellent choreography and scenic backdrops. Beyond that, I did not enjoy Dirty Dancing. Some stories aren't meant to be adapted for the stage and this is one of them (along with The Bodyguard). Broadway has dropped its standards way down for this to get a green light. It needs a ton of retooling. I was very disappointed.

UNNECESSARY CHANGES TO PLOT

As a whole, the dancing was FANTASTIC. Dr. Houseman was poorly cast to say the least. They added many political plot lines that were totally unnecessary, adding scenes and rushing through others. The "teaching" of baby was terribly rushed, and disjointed. This is the 3rd time I've see the play version of Dirty Dancing, and was sorely disappointed.
