Celebrate Bernstein's 100th Birthday
Tanglewood's season-long theme comes to a rousing conclusion at The Bernstein Centennial Celebration this summer. Marking his 100th birthday, the season commemorates Leonard Bernstein's considerable legacy - his legendary tenure as music director of the New York Philharmonic, his compositional genius and contributions as a Broadway composer, and his many philanthropic and educational achievements.
The closing gala reflects the scope of Bernstein's far-reaching talents with a myriad special performers and guests, including conductors Andris Nelsons, Christoph Eschenbach, Kieth Lockhart, Michael Tilson Thomas and John Williams, as well as performers Audra MacDonald and Yo-Yo Ma. The ensemble will perform a vibrant, varied program of Bernstein's best loved works including selections from West Side Story, Candide, Mass and Serenade, classical works that inspired the composer, and a brand new work by Williams.
