Jamie Bernstein Hosts Tanglewood's Young Person Concert
Tanglewood's Bernstein Centenary Season celebration continues with one of the composer's greatest legacies - his Young People's Concerts series. For 14 years between 1958 and 1972, Bernstein oversaw a series of live televised New York Philharmonic concerts that opened the eyes, ears and hearts of millions of youngsters to the magic of classical music. His daughter Jamie Bernstein continues the tradition, hosting and directing this special Tanglewood addition alongside conductor and resident BSO music director Andris Nelsons.
Harnessing the power of cutting edge technology at the time, the Young People's Concerts introduced a whole new generation to the great composers with easily accessible programs. Nowadays the long running series uses digital streaming to add a whole new level of interactive exploration online for the kids of today.
Please note: The afternoon's program is yet to be confirmed.
