OH MY GOD SAVE YOUR MONEY

After reading the description I knew this would either be one of the most exciting things I’d ever seen onstage or one of the worst things ever. It was certainty the worst. Every creative decision was extremely questionable & half-hearted. Way too much media/projections but never used it when it could’ve been used best. The two lead characters (pretty much the only two in the whole show) are played by the same actress… FOR NO REASON. Don’t get me wrong though, most of the actors gave a good performance. Ultimately it was like a super rich high schooler made their parents fund a musical version of their project that won the science fair.

2 HOUR LECTURE - LEARNED NOTHING

The script and concept seem to have been written by an untalented 14 year old. Full of half research facts about the ocean from Wikipedia, with zero nuance or poetry except everyone on stage seems to feel that they are part of deeply-moving, transformational, cutting edge theater. Embarrassingly for them, they are not. The lead actor, although usually singing flat, is extremely charismatic and fantastic as the Ocean, but flips back and forth, manically between that character and Mr. Majority. The concept that we are all the ocean works better in theory, than in practice, and gives you an idea of the intellectual rigor of the evening. Sets, costumes and lighting are beautiful. Projection are used well, but I couldn’t help thinking that they should be blowing me away with their beauty instead of reminding me of an artsy Vietnam newsreel footage. Does the ART really think this is cutting edge? Why can’t we have excellent theater in Boston?
