ClassicalConcerts

Mahler's Symphony No. 2 & More

In celebration of Latvia's 100 years of independence, the Orchestra is led by James Burton in a performance of Einfelde's Luz Aeterna. One of the country's greatest contemporary composers, she's known for her introspective, darkly-hued works.

For the second half of the night, the BSo is joined by a host of special guests - the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, Chinese Soprano Ying Fang, and Argentine Mezzo-Soprano Benarda Fink - to play Mahler's 1 hour and 30 minute Symphony No. 2, Resurrection. First performed in 1895, it's rgularly voted one of the most popular symphonies of all time.

The program for the concert is as follows:

Einfelde - Lux Aeterna, for mixed chorus
Mahler - Symphony No. 2, Resurrection
