American Repertory Theater (A.R.T)
Founded in 1980, American Repertory Theater is known for its innovative, bold productions that often push the boundaries of traditional theater. With a mission to expand the boundaries of theater, A.R.T collaborates with artists from around the world and explores all avenues of storytelling.
Several of their productions have transferred to Broadway, including 'Waitress' (2015) - the Sara Bareilles musical premiered at A.R.T. before moving to Broadway in 2016, where it was nominated for multiple Tony Awards. 'Pippin' (2012) - Diane Paulus' revival of the classic musical began at A.R.T. and transferred to Broadway in 2013, winning four Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. 'Jagged Little Pill' (2018) - inspired by Alanis Morissette's album, the musical premiered at A.R.T. before heading to Broadway and earning 15 Tony nominations.
Huntington Theatre Company
Established in 1981, Huntington is known for its strong commitment to developing new American plays alongside reviving classic works.
One of its celebrated transfers is 'Stick Fly' (2010) - written by Lydia R. Diamond, the play was developed at the Huntington before moving to Broadway in 2011, where it was produced by Alicia Keys. 'Sons of the Prophet' (2011) - written by Stephen Karam, premiered at the Huntington before an acclaimed Off-Broadway run.
SpeakEasy Stage Company
Founded in 1992 and based in Boston's South End, SpeakEasy Stage Company specializes in contemporary plays and musicals.
While SpeakEasy's productions typically remain within regional and Off-Broadway circuits, its early staging of plays like "Next to Normal", "The Inheritance", and "The Scottsboro Boys" helped build momentum for those works before or after their New York runs.
Boston Lyric Opera (BLO)
Founded in 1976, Boston Lyric Opera is the largest and longest-running opera company in New England.
