Two trailblazing pieces with Boston Ballet
During the final throes of the cold season, allow Boston Ballet to warm your passions with a phenomenal display of creativity and elegant movement in the wonderful Winter Experience production. The program will play host to not one but two trailblazing pieces that have shaped the course of contemporary ballet: Crystal Pite's The Seasons' Canon and Jorma Elo's Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring).
The first is Jorma Elo's Le Sacre du Printemps, which reimagines Stravinsky's revolutionary 1913 score. Originally choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky to scandalize Parisian audiences, Elo's interpretation honours the spirit of the original while forging a new path with daring physicality, pulsating ritual, and shimmering flames.
The Seasons' Canon features 54 dancers moving as one living, breathing organism. Crystal Pite's breathtaking choreography, paired with Max Richter's haunting reimagining of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, draws on the deep rhythms of nature and the emotional currents of shared experience, brought to life through the staging of Eric Beauchesne and Anna Herrmann.
