Four renown cellists join the Boston Cello Quartet in celebrating the music and literary arts of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Inspired by Barbara Tuchman'a book, A Distant Mirror, the programme has been designed to explore the artistic developments of this time period with special reference to two of its most prominent literary greats, Shakespeare and Cervantes, at at time which coincides with the 400th anniversary of Cervantes' most famous work, Don Quixote.
Yo-Yo Ma is joined on stage by Mike Block, Monika Leskovar, Giovanni Sollima. This year not only marks Tanglewood's first season to include two Koussevitzky Artists - of which Yo-Yo Ma is one - but also the centre's 75th Anniversary.
