A thrilling symphony like few other
Boston Symphony Orchestra promises to take us on an extraordinary musical journey, performing Olivier Messiaen's otherworldly Turangalla Symphony. The work, known for its lush and colorful orchestration reminiscent of the composer's own experiences of Synesthesia (a condition in which people see colors when hearing sound), will be brought to life by the acclaimed Chinese pianist Yuja Wang under the masterful baton of Andris Nelson. Also performing is Cecile Lartigau, displaying her mastery of the ondes Martenot - one of the earliest electronic musical instruments in history - which produces an ethereal, almost whalesong type sound.
The synergy between traditional and avant-garde elements in this groundbreaking composition make for a transcendent experience, with passion, mysticism, and pulsating rhythms making for one of the most unique sounding classical symphonies around.
