George Balanchine's Jewels remains probably his most synonymous work. Looking at the history and style of the dance form, Jewels represents three cities - Paris, New York, and St. Petersburg - that are all connected prominently with Balanchine's career. Each act captures the complex history of classical dance through the opulence of 19th century France, the imperial style of Russia, and Balanchine's own neoclassical take on the art form in his home country.
