US Premiere

Under the direction of Andris Nelsons, Boston Symphony Orchestra presents the US premiere of a brand new work by acclaimed composer Francisco Coll, sandwiched between two pieces of Beethoven Brilliance. Beethoven's Corolian Overture, based on the Heinrich Joseph von Collins tragedy, opens the program, before renowned pianist Kirill Gerstein solos on Coll's new Piano Concerto.

Finally, the program concludes with Beethoven's spectacular Seventh, a work which by no means sits in the shadows despite its positioning between his more famous Fifth, Sixth and Ninth. A dynamic balance between orchestral grandeur and Beethoven's penchant for simple melody-driven arrangement, the masterful symphony gains momentum for a fiery finale in which its musicians play as if their very lives depend on it.
