Boston Symphony Orchestra - Andris Nelsons conducts Berlioz's Romeo et Juliette at Boston Symphony Hall

Why see Boston Symphony Orchestra - Andris Nelsons conducts Berlioz's Romeo et Juliette?

a shakespeare symphony

Hector Berlioz' exhilarating symphony based on the timeless tale of star-crossed lovers comes to Boston, as the BSO performs his Romeo et Juliette under the baton of celebrated conductor Andris Nelsons. Featuring the vocal talents of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus alongside soloists John Relyea, Lawrence Brownlee and J'Nai Bridges, the epic will be performed in French with the English translations projected above the stage. A thrilling concert to witness!

What is the story?

Whilst Romeo Capulet and Juliette Montague are concerned with love at first sight, their rival clans will stop at nothing to destroy the other. When it becomes clear the match will not be tolerated, the pair hatches a scheme to escape the embittered streets of Verona; only the outcome depends on some dangerous trickery that might just see their fates entwined forever, and not in the marriage bed as previously planned.
