Boston Symphony Orchestra - HK Gruber and Mahler

Boston Symphony Orchestra - HK Gruber and Mahler at Boston Symphony Hall

Why see Boston Symphony Orchestra - HK Gruber and Mahler?

One of the world's great trumpeters

Swedish trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger arrives at the Symphony Hall to play a work composed specifically for him by HK Gruber. Titled Ariel, this sparse and atmospheric piece makes use of Hardenberger's incredible range, and also features a piccolo and cow's horn.

Also on the program for the evening is Mahler's epic Fifth Symphony. Lasting over an hour, the work opens with a trumpet solo before swelling into a piece of exquisite, emotional beauty. Andris Nelsons conducts the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The program for the concert is as follows:

HK Gruber - Ariel
Mahler - Symphony No. 5
