Three ballet works seeing in spring
Boston Ballet closes the season with a stirring triple bill that spans the classical and the contemporary - three powerful works that invite you to feel deeply, think differently and see ballet in a new light. The evening opens with Mikko Nissinen's Raymonda, a sweeping reimagining of Marius Petipa's classic. With elegant new choreography by Nissinen, Florence Clerc, and Alla Nikitina, this updated take honours the heart of the original while leaving behind outdated stereotypes. Set to Glazunov's lush score and brought to life by stunning costumes, it is refined, revitalized, and radiant.
From there, Ji Kylin's 27'52" is made for six dancers in three duets. It blends poetry, silence, and sound to explore time, memory, and connection. With music created specifically for the piece by Dirk Haubrich and text drawn from the dancers' inspirations, it's a bold, stripped-down work.
Finally, Petite Mort - one of Kylin's most iconic ballets, known for its flowing gowns, swords, and exquisite partnering- is a deeper meditation on life, desire, and the quiet shadow of mortality.
