Obsession, tragedy, and bloodthirsty ambition form the heart of Verdi's adaptation of Macbeth, bringing a taut tale of murder in the Scottish Highlands to the Emerson Colonial Theatre this fall. Conducted by David Angus and directed by Steven Malher, this thrilling production will have you on the edge of your seat as a ruthless couple's lust for power leaves a trail of devastation in its deadly wake.
Thought to have first been performed in 1606, Macbeth is the story of a Scottish general who receives a prophecy from three witches that one day he will rule all of Scotland. Consumed by the idea, Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth, do whatever it takes to make the prophecy come true, even if that means blood on their hands. However, their actions have consequences, and both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are driven into a state of madness before an explosive finale.
