Phantom

Phantom at North Shore Music Theatre

Why see Phantom?

The Other Phantom

Don't confuse this with the Andrew Lloyd-Webber production - Yeston and Kopit's Phantom is a wonderful operetta version of Gaston Leroux's novel Phantom of the Opera. The musical was already in the making with an almost-complete score when the world famous Lloyd-Webber version beat them to it in 1986. But despite being overshadowed, Phantom remains an excellent alternative exploration of the Phantom's past, fantastically conjuring the 1890s Parisian atmosphere. Although it has never been on Broadway, Phantom has still enjoyed over 1,000 productions in both the United States and internationally. Don't miss its run at North Shore Music Theatre this year!

What is the Story?

Based on Gaston Leroux's timeless love story, Phantom delves into the star-crossed story of the disfigured musical genius known as the Phantom Erik, and his muse, the singer Christine. Their musical affair unfolds deep in the catacombs of the Paris Opera house, where Erik finds salvation in Christine's exquisite voice. An alternative imagining to the more mainstream Lloyd-Webber version, Phantom is every bit as great as its well known sibling.
