Leopoldstadt at Huntington Avenue Theatre

Leopoldstadt

Playwright Tom Stoppard's most personal work to date, Leopoldstadt is a look at the titular old Jewish Quarter in 1900s Vienna, after an influx of population after the Emperor, Franz Joseph, permitted the Jews in his country full civil rights a generation before. Following one family over four generations, it is a deeply poignant and important projection of the Jewish experience in the 20th century.

The Sojourners

Nigerian-American playwright Mfoniso Udofia tells the story of a Nigerian couple grappling with the challenges of immigration and cultural identity, in her award-winning play Sojourners. Set in 1970s Houston, the play follows Abasiama and Ukpong, a married couple who arrive in America with big plans to return to Nigeria with college degrees and a world of experience to build a future there. However, when Ukpong becomes captivated by American culture, Abasiama is forced to question her place in this new world, caught between her commitment to tradition and her dreams.
