My Station In Life

My Station In Life at The Gloucester Stage

Why see My Station In Life?

The Hit One Man Play Returns

After a sell-out run last year, one-man play My Station In Life returns to Gloucester Stage this October for a special work-shop production. Telling the story of Simon Geller and his one-man radio station, My Station In Life charts the local hero's final and isolated few days with his beloved WVCA-FM.

Simon Geller

Seen as a local legend, Simon Geller kept hundred of thousands of listeners entertained with his one man operated, quirky radio station for nearly 25 years. With a no holds barred approach, including taking toilet breaks and running errands during live Broadcast, Keller frequently faced huge opposition from the Federal Communications Commission, however this stubborn character kept going.

Alas in 1988 Geller finally sold WVCA-FM for a whopping one million dollars, but with the radio station now gone Geller's story continues to inspire many projects, including the short film Radio Fishtown which premiered in 1990.

Premier performance and set was perfect. I very highly recommend. Those who did not know of him will possibly doubt this authentic portrayal - but this was perfect and as I remember. (and yes, I feel somewhat guilty for never contributing to him! - which I attribute to the ignorance of my youth.). ... Read more

My Station in Life, by Ken Riaf, at Gloucester Stage Company

A must-see for theater lovers (on 'til Oct. 28). Excellent play, first-rate production (including the amazing set). Ken Baltin gives a tour-de-force performance. It's about Simon Geller and the Gloucester community, but also so much more-- really universal themes. Lots of humor to leaven the serious drama. You don't have to be from Gloucester to appreciate this show. Well done, Ken(s) & GSC! ... Read more
