Eurydice

Eurydice at Huntington Avenue Theatre

Why see Eurydice?

New Staging

The captivating reimagining of the famous Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice gets a new production and arrangement from its creators, American composer Matthew Aucoin and award-winning playwright and librettist Sarah Ruhl. This new staging has been co-commissioned by the Boston Lyric Opera and Opera Grand Rapids, after its thrilling premiere at the Los Angeles Opera in 2020.

Orpheus and Eurydice's tale of love, despair and heroism has inspired composers and artists from across the artistic spectrum for centuries. Traditionally told from Orpheus' point of view, this ancient story is turned on its head with librettist Sarah Ruhl flipping the narrative and presenting the tale from Eurydice's point of view. Coupled with Aucoin's evocative score and stellar direction from Doug Fitch, Eurydice is a sweeping opera which is sure to delight and excite its audiences.
