Known for her landmark roles as Anita in West Side Story, Rose in Bye Bye Birdy and Velma in Chicago, Rivera trained at the School Of American Ballet before breaking ground on the Great White Way in the 50s in Guys and Dolls and Can-Can. She was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
