The enduring appeal of the doomed maiden voyage of the legendary ship is the focus of this Tony-winning musical from Peter Stone and Maury Yeston, coming to North Shore Theatre this year as part of their 2024/25 season. Telling the story of many of the ship's passengers and staff from the luxury of the first class cabins, to the excitement abounding the third class corridors as they head towards a new life, Titanic is a delicately wrought and emotionally engaging exploration of the Ship of Dreams that'll stick with you long after you leave the auditorium.
Representing the ship's teeming social strata with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan-esque vaudeville numbers to sweeping orchestral ballads that would make Elgar swoon.
First seen in 1997, the musical explores the hopes and dreams of the passengers as they board the monumental liner in search of a new life in America. Each class is given their chance to tell their story, capturing the post-Victorian, pre-WWI society for one fleeting moment before the devastating events of April 14, 1912, changed the world forever.
